Principally used as protection against missiles and as weapons with which to actively parry blows, bearers wielded shields just as effectively to launch offensive attacks, carry magico-religious protective medicines and create visual noise to confuse or frighten the enemies.

Today, shields have been recognized as impressive examples of a culture's artistry and ingenuity. People have great interest in our shields as they are widely used in the re-enactment, LARP events, movies and games based on the historic events. They are also being used as a piece of art for decorating homes.

A variety of sturdy materials are utilized, singly or in combination, for the manufacture of our shields: leather, softwood, medium density wood, hardwood, cloth and plain or embossed metal.
